Short write up My concentration are ceramic masks that express a person's individuality and their inner spiritual animal. This animal represents a person's character and personality. These characteristics may be hidden or overlooked by society and are often buried under the societal pressure to fit in
Long write up As my concentration progressed I modified my techniques to gain a more realistic quality to my artwork. I changed from using ceramic glazes to using acrylic paint in order to produce a more realistic coloring and a less glossy shine so that the pieces would appear as though they are imperfect to reflect on the impurities of life. I chose pairings of animals and people which show the differences in the presented image and the private image only seen by ourselves in order to cause a more in depth thought process of the meanings of the pieces by the viewers. The human sides were chosen of presenting a person to the viewer who could be familiar to the viewer in order to present the idea of someone being more than what is seen on a day to day basis. The pieces changed size, shape and facial expression to further express the difference in technique that was used. As I continued to experiment with facial expressions I added more detail and textures that further enhanced my pieces in order to provoke a deeper thought process in which the viewer reflects on their own experiences.
